About Juba Medical Complex

This sixty bed Hospital has been established to plug a yawning gap in the provision of high quality secondary and tertiary care in the Southern Sudan.

Currently any Southern Sudanese needing investigations with a computerised Axial Tomographic scanning(CT scanning), Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI), conventional X-rays, high resolution Ultrasonography(US), reliable Echocardiography, Endoscopy, laboratory tests to throw more light on the causes of non specific symptoms or treatment requiring complex surgery have to travel to Khartoum (nearly a thousand miles away from Juba), Nairobi(Kenya),Kampala(Uganda), South Africa, Jordan, Egypt or in some cases the United Kingdom or the United States of America.

These referrals often cost huge sums of money in the region of twenty five thousand or more United States Dollars per patient which most people cannot afford.

In most cases the Government of Southern Sudan has to pay these medical, transport and subsistence fees to the individuals referred abroad for treatment. In addition there isn’t enough money to enable families travel with patients in order to support them in Hospital or transport back bodies in the unfortunate event of a death.
